“The Silver Surfers” was the working title for one of our favourite National Trust projects. The brief was to create a short film to inspire older people to start surfing. As part of the surfing community ourselves we already knew some passionate and inspiring people over 50 who surf, and they all said yes!  The logistics of working with volunteers who have busy lives, and recording people together on the beach was a challenge. The solution was to record the audio separately in people’s homes to create relaxed, intimate and conversational narratives that we could illustrate with surfing footage and video portraits. The outcome was an emotional insight into what surfing can bring to your life as you get older.
